"A few weeks after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, I joined
a group of Outer Banks locals who travelled to New York City
and set up two giant pig-cookers on the side of Canal Street
to cook thousands of pounds of food, including some homecooked
North Carolina style barbeque, for workers at Ground Zero.
On the final day, in the car on our way home, I took this
'goodbye' shot of the New York skyline, looking east from the
New Jersey side of the Hudson River, with the sun still
rising behind the smog. Be it in photography, writing, or music,
I have found that the stuff I am ultimately most proud of
tends more often than not to be the stuff that I couldn't have
planned on--what I call my 'Beautiful Accidents.'
This frame is one of those."
